Meet Kate
Hi, I'm Kate.
Before I was a baker, I was a firefighter/paramedic. I loved that work! The purpose, the adrenaline, the feeling of showing up for people on their hardest days. Then my daughter was born, and everything changed.
She came into the world medically complex initially, and without a second thought, I stepped away from my career to be home with her. It was the right choice but somewhere along the way, I lost a piece of myself. My identity, my sense of purpose outside of being a mom.
After my second baby arrived, I decided it was time to find myself again which took me a few years or so to do! I picked up sourdough baking almost on a whim and it changed everything. The slow process, the patience it requires, the way a simple mix of flour and water can become something truly beautiful. I was hooked.
How it started
From finding myself to feeding my community
What started as a way to reclaim my identity quickly became a passion I couldn't keep to myself. I started sharing loaves with friends, family and anyone who would take one. The response was more than I ever expected people thoroughly enjoyed it. I opened in June 2026 and word spread fast about my new adventure.
Kate's Crusty Crumb grew out of that. It's not just a bakery it's proof that you can reinvent yourself at any stage of life. It doesn't matter how old you are or what you were doing before. The only person that ever stops you is you. Every loaf I bake is made by hand, in small batches, with the same love and intention I put into that very first one.
